Randy Ball
Randy’s interest in yoga began in 1980. From then on he couldn’t get enough. Over the past three decades he has participated in many educational experiences including classes and workshops from many national and international yoga instructors. In 1988, he attended a three week yoga intensive with BKS Iyengar and his daughter in Pune, India. 1989 Randy began teaching in 1993 and was certified by B.K.S. Iyengar as an Intermediate Beginning yoga instructor. He has continued to teach throughout the Ann Arbor area.
Coming from a background of both art and yoga, I have found myself in a unique situation to combine the precision of both disciplines.
Traditional yoga classes can be a one-way situation and lack in the area of dialogue or critique. In my classes I facilitate an environment that can enrich people’s lives to their fullest. In a class situation, through observation and execution of the various yoga poses, all parties have input and respect for one another. Their critique may be contrary and of different visions, however through critique we learn to help one another with busy lives and the problems these bring. Students’ lives are enhanced through learning not only by the study of yoga, but by increasing the levels of communication they can use in their busy lives, and their need for putting the benefits of practicing yoga into reality.
Iyengar Program Description
The yogic philosophical precepts of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, which detail moral, ethical and spiritual growth and responsibility, are the underlying foundation of the system. Techniques are taught according to the methods developed by Shri BKS Iyengar. Students of every level should practice regularly between lessons. Students should repeat each level of class, sometimes several times, before moving up.
